THESE REAL-WORLD REVENANTS WERE LEFT FOR DEAD - AND LIVED TO TELL THE TALE.
One of the core themes of the REVENANT was what people do when they are left for dead. To make this idea relevant to contemporary audiences, we sought to understand what goes on when this happens in real life.
We found a handful of personalities who all had one thing in common: they had been in a position without any hope for survival, and were famous in their country. For example:
A desert marathon runner who survived for days without food, or drink. He became so despondent, he tried to take his life--but nature conspired against him.
A woman who had been abducted from her home by smugglers and dropped in the Amazon jungle without any food or water, and had to survive for weeks as she tried to find her way to civilization.
Their harrowing and inspiring stories put THE REVENANT into real world context. These pieces, aimed at an audience that was target adjacent, ran worldwide with substantial editorial support.
